Fall updates and upcoming events
Summer isn’t officially over, but practically speaking, it is behind us.
I’m enjoying the daily parade of small humans on the way to school each morning. The spike of relief and joy among neighborhood parents is its own weather.
I struggle with summer. It’s too…summery. I know it works for others, but for me, I sort of white-knuckle it. Why? I could give you dozens of examples of life in a tourist town, but I’ll limit myself to one: Dinner last weekend with my sister at my favorite restaurant, which was basically a purgatory of summer day body odor and spilled beer while we waited an hour for a table that was position directly under a speaker playing music so loud and distorted that not only was conversation nearly impossible, the music also seemed to physically repel our server, who appeared loath to visit our cacophonous corner of the room, and we couldn’t even tell what the “song” was. Summer!
Anyway, I greet September with relief. Maybe someday it will even rain again! We all have our dreams…
Meantime, I’ve just turned in the final version of my new novel, Bumblebee Season, which will be out on April 21, 2026. Keep an eye out and if it looks good to you, please consider inviting me to your book club.
